Abbot’s Hill Annual CPD Teaching and Learning Conference
Abbot’s Hill hosted a wonderful day of celebrating teaching and learning at the annual Teaching and Learning Conference.
As part of the day, staff hear from two inspiring keynote speakers, Andrew Moffat and Alex Quigley. Alex encouraged staff to reflect on how students learn and how the small decisions we make everyday (around the questions we ask, the support we give, the opportunity for choices we cultivate, and the vocabulary we use) can have a significant impact on pupils’ learning.
Andrew challenged staffs thinking around inclusion and belonging - and how stories and oracy are a powerful way of opening up conversations around protected characteristics. He reminded staff that education is about far more than academic outcomes; it is also about the kind of people we help our students to become.
As well as this Abbot’s Hill staff also delivered their own workshops that explored an interesting breadth of ideas, from pupil data, feedback and supporting neurodiverse learners to 3D printing, tech to enhance learning, active participation and preparing students for the world beyond the classroom.
Thanks go to all those involved in both sharing their expertise and making the day a success. Overall the day acted as a reminder that whatever stage you are at in your career, there is always something new to learn, something to reconsider and something that we can always do better.
