Fostering Collaborative Learning at Grimsdell, Mill Hill Pre-Prep

At the start of the Summer Term, staff at Grimsdell, Mill Hill Pre-Prep participated in an Outdoor Learning session led by Laura Richards and Lucy Dobson, the Outdoor Learning leads from Grimsdell and Belmont.

When staff share their expertise to teach and support one another in a fun and engaging way, it fosters a dynamic culture of collaborative learning that benefits everyone involved. This approach not only strengthens professional relationships and boosts morale but also facilitates the practical exchange of ideas and strategies that can be immediately applied in the classroom. Peer-led initiatives like this inspire confidence, encourage innovation, and promote a sense of ownership over professional development.

As a result, teaching practices at Grimsdell have been revitalised, and children are enjoying more lessons outdoors. This increase in outdoor learning has added a new dimension to their education, with children often finding that their most memorable lessons take place outside.

One particularly inspiring outcome of this focus on outdoor learning has been a stunning art installation on the front lawn: the Poppy Field of Hope. Created sustainably and child-friendly, the children crafted and planted their own poppies, serving as a beautiful tribute on VE Day. They also observed a two-minute silence, reflecting on the sacrifices made for their future. At Grimsdell, we believe children are never too young to begin appreciating the importance of remembrance and hope.
