History Made for Westbrook Hay U11 Girls at the IAPS Football National Finals

Having hosted and qualified from the regional competition last term, Westbrook Hay girls' U11 football team attended the national IAPS football finals for the first time in its history. Comprised of the top 12 teams in the country, it was hosted by Cranleigh School in Surrey. This achievement further shores up Westbrook Hay’s reputation as a sporty school with a long‑standing tradition of national success.

In the group stages the team got off to a slow start, losing the first game to a very unfortunate goal. From then on, the team went from strength to strength, winning three and drawing one of the remaining group games. This meant that the girls qualified for the semi-finals of the national cup in second place, where they met a strong Daneshill team.

However, a collectively impressive performance and a brilliant individual goal from Georgie saw the team win 1–0, and with a stoic defensive performance they made their way through to the national final.

In the final they met Surbiton, who had not lost a game or conceded a goal at any point in the competition. A brilliantly organised team performance and an excellent individual goal from Maggie saw Westbrook through to a 1–0 victory to become national champions. The team only conceded one goal in the entire competition and played with superb organisation and fantastic spirit throughout. Credit goes to the two coaches, Mr Loveless and Miss Starr. Many thanks also to the supporters, with every girl in the squad represented by a passionate team of Westbrook parents.

This latest triumph adds to an impressive history of football success at Westbrook Hay.
