We are thrilled to introduce our next Head in our Meet the Head series. From Heathfield School, Mrs Sarah Rollings!
Mrs Rollings' after being at Heathfield School since 2021, will be moving on to new adventures and is preparing to hand over to incoming head Mr Jonathan Williams.

I've always loved schools and teaching, though didn't always see myself as a Head. As my career progressed, I've been fortunate to work with several outstanding leaders, who inspired me. The constant interaction with students, colleagues, parents and others is wonderful, and, while slightly clichéd, it is the opportunity to work with others to make a difference that I find most fulfilling, especially when you can see the progress made.
I loved it - I couldn't believe my good fortune that I could do something that I enjoyed as my job. I was a part of a big department with many strengths, and have enjoyed keeping in touch with many of my first colleagues throughout our careers. That first year taught me so much - probably my overriding memory is my Head of Department taking my planner around Christmas, to prove to me that I didn’t need it all the time. A valuable lesson, which I didn't appreciate at the time, but taught me so much and boosted my confidence, too.
We undertook a project last year to clarify our School's values and vision, and this has undoubtedly raised the profile and understanding of who we are and what we stand for. It's partly the visibility of the values around school and natural reference during daily life, but it is seen most evidently in our culture. I have to say, it was an amusing moment when during an activity, a visiting student ran from our woods shouting 'empowerment' at the top of his lungs!
The value of deep listening. Schools are made of people, and people see and hear things in different ways. It is only through genuinely understanding their perspective, and sharing ours, that we can collaborate and make progress for our students and schools.
Heathfield joining Mill Hill Education Group is an exciting time, and our integration and involvement within the Group is a key priority. Alongside that, ensuring a smooth handover to our new Head, Jonathan Williams, will ensure that the School continues to go from strength to strength.
If I am honest, it depended a lot on the teacher! I've always loved PE, both academic and practical, plus Geography, Maths and Science.
Alongside being with family and friends, anything outside in the sunshine is always great, walking or golf most frequently. It's not always easy to find time to be active, but it makes a huge difference. I play the flute and have recently started playing the saxophone; music is a regular feature. Sometimes a sudoku or arrow word puzzle is good too.
